Standards:
Hardware: (Includes student and staff machines, routers, switches, printers, wireless, servers, copiers, telephones and other peripherals)
• Purchases are based on needs and evaluation of current use with consideration of future trends.
• Work stations to be purchased with current level standards and those which meet the intended use of the station.
• Servers should be top-end performers in terms of processor, hard disk, RAM and connectivity standards
• Hardware purchases will be consolidated for efficient use of funds
Software:
(Includes the operating system and third-party applications)
• Purchases are based on needs and evaluation of current use with consideration of future trends.
• Purchases will meet industry standards for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, publishing, and multi-media.
• Management software will be implemented to allow more efficient use of resources
• Course management software for consistent staff/student use
Strategies:
• The district will re-institute a district technology coordinator with the following duties:
o Coordination of all hardware and software purchases
o Partnership and liaison between IT and curriculum needs and the allocation of site-specific IT resources in personnel
o Coordinate technology staff development
o Be aware of trends and advocate for continued improvement
o Manage ongoing technology funds
o Provide leadership for continuity and communication among sites
o Over-sees the IT department and reports to the superintendent (cabinet level position)
o Advocate for and coordinate funds and opportunities both in and outside the district
o Streamline the integration of resources including printers, fax machines, photo-copiers, telephones etc.
o Develop policies for hardware repairs
• Budget
o Create a specific line item for district technology spending that includes purchases of infrastructure, hardware, software, and staff development and preventative and required maintenance
o Provide for adequate staffing support at all sites & the IT department
o Develop and implement a upgrade cycle that evaluates technology needs on a three –to--five year basis
o Provide on-going financial support for technology repair and maintenance
